My first dog in life was a boxer, and with those wonderful memories that is what we set out to find. Southern Arizona Boxer Rescue introduced us to several dogs but Holly just pulled at our heart from the start, like love at first sight.

Those first few months were quite trying. She suffered from severe separation anxiety, so we crated her at first because she went into such a panic when we left, raced in and out of the house and howled on the patio. Going into the crate was not her favorite thing either and for the first week she did all she could to get out. We made her life very secure and structured with two long walks per day. We also spent many hours coming and going from the house starting with 5 minutes and working our way up. We did not want her to stay in a crate when we were gone so we slowly started working on leaving her out. Now when we leave she goes to her bed and waits for us to come say good-bye. Patience and perseverance paid off!

Her favorite thing to do is ride in our golf cart with the window down and the wind flapping in her jowls. She sits right against you and leans into the corners like a motorcycle rider. She has brought us so much joy and we can’t imagine life without her.

Lucas was born deaf, as 1/3 of white boxers are, and his future did not look good until he met Torey and Travis, who were looking for the challenge of a deaf dog. They worked patiently with him, and now he is living the good life, with a companion dog who "hears" for him. He goes on daily walks, and has learned many obedience terms, and most importantly, he is dearly loved! His owners said of these pictures: Is it obvious that they like each other? I can't believe how smitten Lucas is. If he's not sleeping on her or next to her, they are playing together. I am so happy he is so happy!"

Following the passing of Princess, our volunteer adopted the girl in the back, Missy, who came to us from New Mexico.  Missy enjoyed life with Casper, but he was much slower than her high speed nature.  Following the passing of Casper, the same volunteer adopted Toby.   Toby was found wandering the streets of Douglas, thin, rough coat, and a terrible limp.

Upon meeting, we immediately diagnosed a dislocated hip. Fortunately we found a vet who would do surgery for a reasonable fee, and today Toby is sleek, happy and using his leg  all the time, with excellent results, considering that it had been out of it's socket for a couple of months, at least. He and Missy are quite the pair, playing non-stop and with never a harsh word between them! Everyone who meets this pair is astounded at their good natures and playfulness, and Toby's face can just melt your heart in 2 seconds or less! Many thanks to our volunteer for taking on a post-surgery boy and having faith!

Our beloved Nikki came to us as just a pup, and lived very nearly to the age of 15, quite old for a boxer. We were devastated when she passed on, and we swore up and down that there would be no more dogs. Our iron resolve lasted almost exactly one month. We made the drive from El Paso to Tucson, where we met and adopted Morgan, a lively 18 month old female boxer. She had already had two homes, her last of which had two kids, aged 9 and 11. I'm certain that she misses them to this day!

Getting her to our home, we were pleasantly surprised to find that she had been house and leash trained, and would readily "sit" and "shake".  She's our every day walking. Morgan has turned out to be one of the best dogs that we've ever owned. She's always energetic but is quiet indoors, and is not given to recreational barking. She's empathic and eager to please, and has quickly become a loved and trusted member of the household.
We just want to express our deep gratitude to Southern Arizona Boxer Rescue for the great work done on behalf of this great breed, and for our wonderful Morgan.

Julie and Howard Penley,

El Paso, TX
